During the public holidays in the beginning of october I went to China together with my room mate. We had the opportunity to discover the two beautiful cities Shanghai and Beijing. In the following pictures I give you a quick insight in what we saw in Beijing. The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty. or almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. Built in the 7th century BC, the Great Wall of China is an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China in part to protect the Chinese Empire against intrusions by various nomadic groups or military incursions. The Temple of Heaven is a complex of religious buildings. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest.
Zum Bearbeiten hier klicken The photo shown above is a portrait of the US singer Rihanna. She finds herself in a very thoughtful posture and doesn’t look into the camera.
In the background we can see a tree, but because of the blur we can’t make any further assumptions about the surrounding. The first thing which catches my attention is Rihanna’s colorful clothing, it gives a perfect contrast to the blurry and rather gray background. The composition in the photo is nicely balaced with her in the foreground, with the right amout of gray and kind of mystery behind her. I like the choice of colors in the photograph alot. Apart from the colorful clothing, we can only see the color red which makes us once more aware of the fact that Rihanna is the center oft he picture and that we should give her all of our attention. I really like the exposure and the lightening which shows off Rihanna in a colorful setting and keeps the background really in the back. In this cartoon, Dave Granlund is adressing the mideast conflict, a neverending political, moral and religious conflict between Israel and Palestine.
In the center of the cartoon, we can see the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing at a ladder, beating a beeyard with the title „Hamas“. Obviously he has beaten the beeyard over and over again, as we can see various injuries at his head and his arms. He is wearing a t-shirt with his surname and the Mogen David printed at the backside. Due to their imprints, the beeyard is standing for the Hamas and therefore for the Palestinian population, whereas Benjamin Netanyahu is clearly standing for the Israeli population. Furthermore we can see two speech bubbles, one of them saying „The more we hit, the more we sting“ and the other one saying „The more they sting, the more we hit“. Here he obviously wants to give us an idea about how the Israeli make their decisions in terms of attacking Palestine. Israel keeps attacking Palestine and expects reaction from them, but as soon as they receive that reaction, they use it as a reason to put themselves in the position of the victim and react by attacking Palestine again. With the wooden stick in his hand, Netanyahu might try to put himself in the position of the leader oft he Israeli population and wants to show strenght over the Hamas by beating the beeyard. The fact that the cartoon shows him standing at a ladder could also mean that he sees himself at the top of his nation, maybe as a leader, standing up in order to protect them against the Hamas and for the Palestinian nation in general. Seen from a neutral perspective, I still can say that the author of the cartoon might find himself at the palestinian side of the conflict. |
